About 49% of the city’s Jewish population was killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust. The yard on 5B Franka Street in the town of Kolomyia is paved with matzevot (tombs-tones) from the Jewish cemetery, which was turned into a park by the Soviet authorities in 1967. Today, almost all new residents of the city do not agree to share either a park or to give back the tombstones from the yard to the Jewish community.
